***This is the first of 2 training cycles for kids during the year and it consists of Folkstyle training. The next cycle begins with Folkstyle and then gives an introduction to the Olympic styles (Freestyle and Greco Roman).  The dates for the second cycle are March 1 – May 31.  If you want to get an advantage and really make improvements, I strongly recommend doing both cycles.  Freestyle and Greco will help you become a better folkstyle wrestler.  This will be an advantage for when you reach high school.  There is a strong correlation between the kids that wrestle freestyle/greco and the kids that are on the award stand at the High School State Tournament!                  -Something to consider

Club Members Return From France

dsc_3902-copy.JPG Cameron Henry, Tim Toerner, Daniel Cataldi, and Wil Kelly participated in a 10 day cultural exchange tour to Paris, France August 2009.  Some of the sites we saw included the Louvre, Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triumphe, Champs Elysees, The Catacombes, Notre Dame Cathedral, a boat ride on the Seine, Jim Morrison’s grave, and the French Olympic Training Center.

Although many of the clubs were closed during the visit to Paris we were able to train with 4 French National Team members.  3 of which are preparing for the World Championships just 1 month away.  The trip proved to be a success both in terms of having a good cultural experience and the experience of training along side guys that are preparing for the World Championships.  This was an experience worth the trip in itself.   Good luck to Remi, Luca, and Didier at the World Championships!

Club Members Return To Beijing

Three club members and some additional family are making the pilgrimage to Beijing for the 29th Olympiad.  For 2 of us this will be our 2nd trip to Beijing.  In 2006 Mike Kelly and Wil Kelly were in China for a wrestling cultural exchange.  The trip was outstanding and beneficial in many ways which weighed heavily on our decision to return for the Olympics.

While in Beijing we plan to meet up with an old friend Zhang Fan.  We will get a couple workouts with local clubs but primarily we will be spectators at the games.  One other important announcement,  Zhang Fan will be returning to the US with us and helping our club to prepare for the upcoming season!!  This cultural exchange could last 6-8 months.  Zhang is several times a Chinese National Champion and Olympian himself and will have much to offer the club this season.  Look forward to seeing him at the club in early September.
